I bought a 2016 cruze lt this week. Low miles, I drove it to work the day after I bought it and it's been in the shop ever since. Engine under boost and the water pump is leaking. Are these cars junk?

My Cruze has smooth steering, pretty convenient steering wheel controls and its comfy. Its a base model LS 2015.

This car is worth putting some effort into. Once you have figured out what is wrong and put some decent parts on it, you can have a ball driving it. Just browse our How-To sections. Many of the fixes are laid out so well my sister can fix them.

I’ve had my 2011 lt for 8 years , and it’s been really good to me.

Just cause it was sold to you with issues doesn’t make it a bad car... Makes the seller a bad person though.

Chevy extended the warranty for 10 years on the water pump.

I mean it sucks putting a bunch of money into a car shortly after you buy it but im trying to fix it up to the point where ill be alot happier with it. I like the car I just hate the way it shifts and the leaks its been having. I am hoping that clutch accumulator bypass really helps and I know the syncromesh will for shur

I've had mine for 5 years so I know of what I speak. And let me tell you how horrible it is first....
Its the quietest vehicle I've ever owned! :D
It gets the best mpg of any vehicle I've ever owned.
It hasn't had even one thing break on it.

Ok now that I've vented, the one good thing.
It has just the right amount of trunk space to hold my ego.

Generally the later Gen 1's are better as they worked out some of the issues...and they are still newer.

However, there were several things they couldn't ever address with recalls/warranties/redesigned parts just due to engineering compromises that were made when the car was designed. For instance, the intake manifold check valve in the PCV system, and they never could seem to design a water pump or coolant outlet hose for the 1.4 that didn't leak.

I was given my 2011 and after I rolled 100K on the odometer I went ahead and added just about every performance mod I could without getting in to the engine. I had to replace the clutch before had but that’s a wear item. Only other issue I have is my passenger side front window doesn’t want to go down but I’ve been to lazy to take the door panel off and see why. I couldn’t be happier with the car.

This car made me a great mechanic! :)
Gen1 is easy to maintain, affordable spare parts and this forum has plenty of great info of how to do fix yourself! I had/have Gen1 Cruze cars since 2011 and it's easy to take care of multiple similar cars for the entire family!

2012 here with 150k and counting miles. Had a warranty intake manifold and cam cover replacement at 25k miles and I changed the water pump and inlet myself at 88k miles. Mobil 1 every 5k and amsoil in auto trans. Tuned with Trifecta select-a-tune since 30k miles which keeps the temp at 200°f. Great car here if driven on freeway and no traffic jams. My commute is 20 miles of 45mph and 30 miles of 65mph. Never been a city driver which is probably why im on original brake pads and shoes.

Another one of those engineered in faults on the Gen I's is the wind buffeting when the windows are down. I have since discovered that a set of Well Visors dramatically reduces the issue.
