Hello, I’ve had my Cruze for about 8 months now. Bought it with 110,000 miles and it has about 118,000 now. The check engine light will come on and off because of the mass air flow sensor, and I believe they said it was not faulty but that it’s getting a reading out of the parameters it likes. The check engine light will come on and off with no rhyme or reason. Anyone have a similar issue and was able to resolve it themselves? I appreciate all help. Thank you.

Good evening, I have been having this same exact problem for the past 2-3 weeks. I think I finally have it resolved but wont know say 100% that it’s fixed for another week or 2 driving lol. I have had the car for almost 3 years now and this is the very first real issue that I’ve had to deal with, it’s sitting at 71k miles so not Too shabby.

Anyway, here’s what I did to fix mine (for now):
First thing I looked at was the MAF sensor connector on the airbox to make sure it was all good, next inspect your vacuum lines for leaks or obvious damage anywhere, after that all checked out double check your air filter to make sure it is clean, If not replace asap. I think this is what mine ended up being. Up until recently I‘ve been getting my oil changed at the stealership where I bought the car for a couple of different reasons, at which time they are supposed to be changing my air filter as well as 24+ other things in their little checklist they sign off on. I specifically purchase and ask for the oil change package which includes these things. Imagine my disappointment when I open the airbox to find what I believe to be the original factory air filter, this thing was the worst air filter I’ve ever seen! I was appalled and a little embarrassed that I hadn’t checked it before, regardless it was certainly a lesson in oversight. I highly recommend you double check any work that you have done, even at the GM dealership. They are notorious for pencil whipping service (just checking off that it got done)

For good measure while I had everything apart I went ahead and cleaned up the one side of my throttle body since it was pretty gummed up, I would check that out as well on yours it’s a common fix to this problem for some. Since I have no idea how long I’ve been running with a restricted air filter I also went ahead and cleaned up all the intake piping, and the inlet side of the turbo as there was a lot of oil collected there. The last thing I would check if you still can’t get the CEL to go away, is the PCV system. Luckily the Gen 2’s PCV system is a little easier to work on, but only a little bit lol. I would honestly consider pulling the entire valve cover with that many miles and replace the PCV system entirely, if not the valve cover as well…It’s not a matter of if you will need to do this, it‘s a matter of when. Just browse through the forums and look at how common PCV problems are with these cars.

Apologies for the long winded response, but this is the first time I’ve found someone with the same exacty issue as me. I would appreciate any updates you can provide when you get it figured out, for my own information.

Thank you, I will start with the stuff I am able to do and then if it doesn’t resolve I’ll have my mechanic take a look.
