Just recently got a fixer upper ‘12 1.4 Cruze with 148k miles. Check engine light comes on and turns out it’s running lean. I replaced the O2 & temp sensors and nothing. Last night, I pulled the MAF sensor and cleaned it. That seemed to do the trick. This morning, the light came back on and it’s running lean again. Anyone have any experience with this? This is really a head scratcher for me and I’d appreciate some input. Thanks!

Is this a 1.4 or a 1.8? Your title says 1.4, while the post says 1.8.

LT/LTZ/Eco = 1.4T. LS (no badge on trunk, 2-tone upholstery, steel wheels) = 1.8.

Usually this is a vacuum leak, and usually it's the PCV disc in the valve cover on either engine has popped. The 1.4T has a different failure mode, though - the intake check valve has disappeared, and you'll need to install a PCV fix kit (www.cruzekits.com) or replace the entire intake manifold or it will just happen again and start blowing out engine seals as well. The 1.8 is just replace the valve cover and carry on.

Give this a read. It's likely the valve cover.

O2 sensor codes, unless you see a heater or voltage code, rarely point to a problem with the O2 sensor on these cars - they are indicative of an air metering issue.
