My son bought his car, used 3 years ago, and it has been great up until two weeks ago. The car was stalling occasionally at stop lights, but would start right back up. Check engine light came on. We have had it in the shop several times and they have replaced several items, including sensors. We picked it up tonight. They said there is still a P1018 code pending, but the check engine light was not on. My son took a short drive and the check engine light is now back on. They told us to bring it back in if the light comes back on or if there any performance issues. Any suggestions?

Well, going off your story and the nature of the code I can understand why they couldn't find the issue. Just know that the lack check engine light doesn't mean the car is running 100% and the computer doesn't see a problem. It just means that some engineer made a judgment call as to whether or not the light should come on.

Your code means you are losing a 5V communication signal. I would start by looking at two areas.
#1 The car battery. Remove the negative, then positive cables and clean the inside of the cable fitting and the battery posts. Reconnect the cables, then check the voltage with a meter or the cars DIC. I've said it a few times before, buying this brush is the best $5 anyone can spend on a car.

#2 While the battery is disconnected, clean and inspect all the ECM pin connectors. Just one bad connection could be your issue. Look at everything very closely, and clean with alcohol afterwards. Even if you find nothing wrong, just the act of cycling the connectors might solve the issue.

This is a code for the MAF sensor, and probably unrelated to your other issue. First off, is the intake stock? Did your son install anything aftermarket? If the intake is stock and the air filter is ok, next look for leaks in the ducting. If you do have a leak it is most likely a lose connection. Next, clean the MAF sensor. If that doesn't work you will need to replace it. Don't let anyone talk you into a generic sensor, you'll need an OEM MAF sensor.
I'll assume you have a 1.4L engine with an automatic transmission. BTW, you should include this information when you ask for help. ;)
