How-To: Update Chevrolet MyLink Radio to the latest version (US/Canada)

Please read (08/2024)
When I posted this update several years ago it was the solution to the constant bluetooth errors I was having along with other weird bugs/glitches at the time for my Cruze I used to own. If you’ve come here because you are having some type of issue with yours, this update may not fix it. Please note that the software/hardware for your headunit was designed back in 2012-13 and while you can try applying this update it’s very likely the unit is failing in some way. I would highly recommend going aftermarket or replacing your OEM unit to one possibly from a 2016 Cruze Limited (gen 1) as it has the most up to date hardware. It’s possible a radio from a 2017 Equinox might be compatible as well since it’s identical, but you’re more than welcome to message me or reply to this thread if you want me to do research or need guidance. Check out this helpful thread as well if you need help unlocking a radio from another GM vehicle. This applies to the 2011-2016 Gen 1 Cruze

This thread is for anyone who is looking to update the software for the factory MyLink radio in their Cruze. The update files have been uploaded from my own ACDelco SPS subscription. Please read the post and the instructions carefully, as well as the TSB linked for important information before applying the update. 2013-2016 US/Canadian Cruzes with this radio should be able to read this update and apply it. As for navigation units, I cannot confirm or test that this update works on one even though the TSB mentions it can be applied. Please check the thread; someone may have posted whether it worked for them or not. (Edit 02/2024: this post has been up for a long time and no one has confirmed if this update works with a MyLink navigation unit. So I am going to assume that it is NOT supported. You can test and post results at your own risk if you wish.)

If you are having issues with your MyLink system or want to be up to date you can download and install the update using a USB drive below, currently the latest version is from Sep. 2016. The TSB can be found here, 15-NA-081. It has useful info inside it in case something goes wrong, etc. If you don't have 84009432 Version E0.11.1F.40 in the Software Version Information screen, under Radio Settings, then you should be able to install this update. If your radio is NOT having any issues as described in the TSB, then this update is completely optional. This is not a feature update; it fixes software bugs only.

Directions to update the system are included with the update, please read them carefully before proceeding. If your radio is already up to date you will get a message on the radio asking if you want to apply the update again. Leave a comment if you need help or have a question.

IF YOU HAVE A NON-COLOR RADIO, OR YOUR MYLINK DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THE PICTURE ABOVE, THIS UPDATE WILL NOT WORK ON YOUR RADIO!! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BRICKED RADIOS, YOU ARE DOING THIS UPDATE AT YOUR OWN RISK AND KNOWLEDGE!

As of 10/27/22 I no longer own my Cruze and therefore while I'll try my best to answer questions I may not be able to help on certain topics. I also do not have access to a SPS subscription, so I cannot upload any future updates if there are any.

No PC:

Descompacte/extraia o firmware que você acabou de baixar
Arraste a pasta de atualização do .zip que você extraiu para a unidade flash vazia

No veículo:

No rádio:

I was able to download the file, but so far allI was able to extract was the text file. I'll keep working it.

Directions for updating MyLink radio using USB programming (2013-2016 Gen1 Cruze) (NOT TESTED ON NAV UNITS YET)

If you don't understand basic computer knowledge such as extracting .zip files/formatting flash drives please research before continuing
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY BRICKED RADIOS, YOU ARE ACKNOWLEGING THAT YOU ARE DOING THIS UPDATE AT YOUR OWN RISK, AND YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING!

Requirements:
Windows/Mac computer
USB 2.0/3.0 flash drive with at least 4GB capacity formatted as FAT32, needs to be erased/empty
Battery voltage is above 12v (this will take a long time, make sure battery is good or use a battery maintainer)
At least 45min-1hr of your time

On the PC:

Un-zip/extract the firmware you just downloaded
Drag the update folder from the .zip you extracted to the empty flash drive

In the vehicle:

Turn the key to the ON/RUN position (do not start the engine!!)
(for start/stop button ignition hold the button down for 5 seconds with key inside without pressing brake pedal, DO NOT USE ACCESSORY MODE!!)

On the radio:
Insert the USB in the center console, it's fine if it tries to switch radio sources

Press config > radio settings > software versions menu > update radio software

The radio will verify files, this can take up to 10-15 minutes depending on the flash drive used
Once the radio is done verifying files, start the software update
Read the warnings, then continue

The radio will reboot a few times while updating, if it looks frozen at all DO NOT TURN OFF THE VEHICLE, just be patient. It does take a long time!! If it stays frozen for a really long time check the TSB, page 2 for further instructions

Once updated the radio will reboot automatically, however vehicle settings may be reset back to factory defaults, change them to your preferences if needed.
Bluetooth devices may need to be re-paired to the vehicle.

THE UPDATE WAS DOWNLOADED FROM OFFICIAL GM SPS SERVERS ON A TECHLINE CONNECT MACHINE, CALIBRATION NUMBERS ARE 22222221, 84009432, 84019246, 84019247, 84019249
I will check and update this if new updates arise, as of 2022-07-06 this is the latest version that can be downloaded from GM servers

Link to TSB from Sep. 2016: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2016/MC-10118920-9999.pdf
Thanks for the feedback. Great! You got the files!

Hoping it works out.

Thanks!

I didn’t need a scan tool to do the update just a usb drive. There is a programming section for the radio but that might be where the scan tool is needed. And for the usb updates it shows me a list of different radio codes it can be applied to. SPS uses techline connect software now, which may be why things have changed

I know this post is a bit old but I just ran across it. So I did this tonight on our 2014 CTD and had no problems. It looks like the software in the file is from the 15-NA-081 update/campaign that GM put out in 2016. Wife had been complaining about her iPhone disconnecting from the head unit and not wanting to pair back up without removing it from the list and starting over. Apparently this software fixes that and some other issues. I don't have navigation.

List of fixes for this software from GMs TSB
• Navigation traffic flow lines do not display correctly
• Cannot enter a destination
• Navigation split screen display issues
• Radio locks up at “Calculation Route” screen
• Radio locks up at “Navigation Initializing” screen
• Radio locks up with Guidance Alert
• Radio locks up when editing a destination address
• Navigation scale display does not display correctly
• Navigation changes map modes after phone call
• Phone pairing concerns
• Voice recognition phone book inoperative until after a complete ignition cycle
• Navigation POI’s not listed correctly
• Unable to call POI’s
• Navigation POI’s flickering on display
• Navigation “Show Traffic Events on Map” not fully functional
• Navigation shows Province list as State
• Radio resets with no user input
• After pairing their iPhone to the radio, the phone does not automatically re-pair and is no longer shown in the radio’s “Device List”
• XM Weather Alerts Activate Automatically after an ignition cycle
• The bluetooth connection may be lost when replying to a text message
• (OnStar) (TBT route download) "Routing" screen appears and stays on display even though the route requested had finished downloading
• USB audio still plays through speakers while BT phone call is in session (No audio from phone)
• The radio display will freeze, go blank and come back on after a few seconds. The display may show the splash screen or come back on to the last screen that was displayed. The customer may notice a loss of radio control shortly before the concern occurs
• The radio display may freeze for an entire ignition cycle. The display may be frozen on the wrong screen, be distorted, or have lines going through it when the concern is present. The display cannot be changed and normal operation will resume after an ignition cycle
• Cannot edit phone device list when full
• Radio does not return to the correct screen after rear camera screen
• Prevents last rear vision camera screen from showing on the radio
• Rear vision camera did not go off in drive
• System does not play Podcasts when initiated from the radio
• No audio experienced at random conditions but normal chime operation is noted during the concern.
If you don't have 84009432 Version E0.11.1F.40 in the Software Version Information screen, under Radio Settings, then you should be able to install this update. I just followed the directions included in the download. I also used a battery charger to keep the voltage up, I always recommend using one for any software updates in vehicles regardless of what is getting the update.

thank you so much for this info! I updated the post with the TSB PDF and some other things but finally after a few months someone actually tries it which I really appreciate. I doubt GM will release another update for these radios anyway so even if this post is old nothing will probably change lol. But I hope it fixes your pairing issue

*also, hopefully you don't mind but I did copy and paste what you said about the sw version info screen into my post to help others out

Hey guys,

So recently a friend let me use his cruzes SPS subscription, and I noticed that there is a section for infotainment system updates that can be applied using a USB drive. Even on this forum there is barely any info about updating the system, and no updates seem to exist anywhere on the internet for these radios. So I'll upload it here since you guys may benefit from it (or not). This update should work on any cruze with the US MyLink system, doesn't matter the trim. (not tested on nav units yet)

If you are having issues with your MyLink system or want to be up to date you can download and install the update using a USB drive below, right now the latest version is from Sep. 2016. The TSB can be found here, 15-NA-081. It has useful info inside it in case something goes wrong, etc. If you don't have 84009432 Version E0.11.1F.40 in the Software Version Information screen, under Radio Settings, then you should be able to install this update.

Directions to update the system are included with the update, please read them carefully. Have fun updating if it works! If your radio is already up to date you will get a message on the radio asking if you want to apply the update again.

Anyone test this on the Nav systems, yet? I take it it doesnt include a map update?

Only issue im having with my radio is when I play from a USB stick, it switches to radio sometimes for a few seconds then back. No idea why it does that. Any idea if this update would fix that? 🖖

According to TSB it fixes issues with the nav system but I have no idea if it works on one. Probably best to put the update on a USB drive and see if your radio recognizes it. If the files aren’t valid or compatible the radio shouldn’t let you update. The USB issue your having might be fixed by this update but I see no mention of it in the TSB anyway.

As for an actual map update I'm sure it doesn't include one. That’s where you need an actual CD. If it did I’d imagine the update would be a lot bigger in size but it’s only 1.5GB.

Those look like "part" numbers (probably of the software update).

Hi - Hoping that this thread is still alive as I am desperately seeking some help with my Cruze MyLink system.
I have an Australian Holden Cruze 2014 - all was great until I tried to connect my iPhone by bluetooth.
As there were already 5 previous phones paired I needed to delete unused ones but despite trying everything the system would not let me do it. I tried googling the issue and found nothing much except the suggestion to do a factory reset to the system to clear out the paired devices.
This worked and after the reset I was able to connect my new iPhone - All seemed good until I tried to use the Sat Nav.
Now every time I try to use the Sat Nav Iget the message "Navigation Initializing" and it just hangs but never brings up the Nav system. If I hit the BACK button I get back to the main menu and all other functions work but no Sat Nav.
I have tried everything to reset the system including resetting to vehicle factory defaults again and restoring radio to defaults as well as the usual attempts to disconnect battery etc etc.
I saw in this post that there is an update available that might resolve this "Navigation Initialising" issue and I would like to try to update my unit using the update posted here except that I am concerned that it is specifically for North American region.
I wonder if there is a similar update available for Australian region and if it could be posted here?
I have taken my car to a dealership only to be told it is out of warranty and so they not interested in helping me..
I have checked my system and the latest software version is 92287178 Version E1.10.1D.0C.
Any help would be appreciated.

just a guess but this update will most likely not work since it’s directed for the US units only as mentioned in the TSB. I don’t know if the units are the same hardware wise in Australia, but I’m thinking the software is probably way different since it probably has different functions, regional changes etc. I know MyLink exists in Holdens but I’m sure those have their own updates/software. I think based on your issue with the nav system it almost sounds like there is some file corruption going on? Since it isn’t loading the maps. But why use that when a phone mount and Google Maps/Waze exists and you can have those directions play through the speakers?

Is there access to ACDelco TDS subscriptions in Australia? Again not sure if Holdens use that for programming/updating modules but here in the US that was what I used to pull the update for the headunit. A VXdiag scan tool was another item I needed as well (I borrowed a friend’s) so the techline connect software can correctly identify the modules, radio etc before the update can even be downloaded to the PC. It’s about US $45 for one VIN. It can get expensive and for some difficult, so at that point I’d would go aftermarket if it’s a big issue

Thanks for your response Paskalampi - it is so frustrating and annoying - has worked flawlessly up till now and although the map data is a few years old now it is more than good enough for my day to day purposes and I like the standard integration which should by rights be working without the need for me to outlay huge dollars to restore. Holden dealerships are pretty cluless here and don't seem to care at all since the stop of manufacturing of Holdens in Australia. I found one dealership that was asking $250 AUD per hour to "try" to diagnose the issue but basically gave me no assurance they could fix it - they suggested I start with one hour of their time and keep my fingers crossed but told me to expect a good few hours of work if they need to do anything more than simple diagnostics including if required updating radio firmware - that's why I was kind of hoping someone on this forum could at least confirm if there is a similar update for my Holden Cruze as the one you mention in this thread - even if there is no way to download and provide that firmware at least I might be able to go to a dealer here and just request they update with the software version armed with a TSB indicating the possible bug fix.
If anyone else out there can help me would be much appreciated.

The only way someone could upload their own update is if they have a SPS subscription and is obviously willing to upload it here, etc but I think I'm the only one that has done it so far on this website and I’m in the US. I doubt anybody else will do it since it gets involved and you need equipment, and because Holden is dead that probably makes it way more difficult

There was a website where you could type in your VIN and it would bring up module calibrations (updates) for your vehicle including the radio but I can't remember what it was called or find it on google, my guess it doesn't exist anymore? Maybe someone can tell me what it is. And yeah updates are expensive through dealers but doing it yourself is also up there as well. My mechanic friend was rebuilding a cruze at the time and he let me borrow everything needed to do that so it saved me $$$, so I saved it and uploaded it here

Just bumping this thread. It's been kind of quiet and honestly I'm wondering how many people have tried the update and whether it was successful, has it improved anything or not. Basically additional feedback since only a few people in this thread have said something but I don't think it's enough to tell if the update works for everyone. I imagine most people who updated successfully are not saying anything, while I'm sure if someone had an issue they would say something. It's almost been a year since I uploaded this.

Hi Paskalampi. With nothing to lose I did try to follow the guide just to see if I could break my Holden Mylink any more than it was already but to no avail. Regardless what I tried I could not get my system to recognise the files on USB to be seen as an update and therefore it never progressed. Wish I could find someone local in Australia that could fix my Navigation initialising problem without costing me sn arm and a leg!
I gave up and tried to install one of those aftermarket Chinese Android head units only for it to be pulled out a couple of weeks later as it was really crappy and unreliable. Worst thing is that it kept changing the dashboard screen to Chinese characters among other issues. So now back to my old dodge Mylink system which at least looks like it belongs albeit no nav!
I’ve been looking at wreckers for 2nd hand Nav head units to replace mine in hope they don’t have same software bug affecting mine but conscious of fact that I might have to do some mod to get to work for my VIN. I saw on another thread a process of reflashing EEPROM and willing to give it a go for lack of other options ( cost effective ones at least!!)

if there is anyone else out there in Australia with ability to help me with my Holden Cruze Mylink I would be happy to hear from them!

Post in the Gen 1 Audio/Electrical section, and see if others can help you with the issue your having. I’ve done the EEPROM method for unlocking radios several times, it’s pretty easy to do if your comfortable taking the new radio apart. Sorry that the update didn’t work out, it is US/Canada only so it makes sense for it not working over there. Good luck, hopefully you can find a solution, I wish I could help but I’m not familiar with any of the Holden radios.

If you still have the Android radio, PM me on here, I might be able to help getting it to work reliably for you, I have great knowledge of the software those run, and I work on them all the time

hello,
just to ask i have a 2015 chevy cruze lt with the same radio as pictured. i have read many articles that say you have to go to a chevrolet dealership to get the radio software updated. i am currently downloding the software/files you have linked as i am not made of cash. is there anything else as far as vehicle updates/software that i should keep my eyes out for?

#37 ·
nope just follow the instructions and read the TSB linked. should be straightforward. many sites say you have to go to the dealership which is true for most people that aren't mechanics but if you have your own scan tool and ACDelco SPS subscription it is entirely possible to do it yourself for the same price. But I wanted to upload it here to save everyone the trouble 😉

ok ... i have tried this update ... the screen froze while it said update 4 of 5 (0%). i pulled the usb stick, restarted. It seems to work. but i don't know if i have created some frankenstein software version. haha.

I put the usb stick back in to try and flash it again, but it says there are no files to update on the USB stick.

So my question is ... is there a way to force it to flash again? Or to erase it then flash again? or am I stuck with what i have short of going to a dealer. The upside it that it does work and bluetooth now works...

#47 ·
If it says that there are no new updates to be flashed then I’d say you’re fine. Maybe check the software versions tab to see what got updated by matching the calibration numbers in the guide? I wouldn’t worry about it if everything works as expected. When you say it froze at the 4/5 part how long did you wait before restarting it? Sometimes it can take a hour or more and it may look frozen but it’s not

@Blasirl just updated the post with a... . let me know if it works
Hi! I'm from Brazil and I have a Cruze LTZ 2015. I downloaded the files. The option to update appeared but the message also appeared: "hardware ñ comp.". I preferred not to continue with the installation.

Please, does anyone have access and could make the Brazilian version of the latest update available?

Thank you very much, I ask for space.

@Blasirl just updated the post with a ... let me know if it works

The issue I'm having with my 2014 Cruze diesel Mylink is that it stopped reading txt messages to me. Now when I get a text, nothing happens. I only will notice if I see it flash on my iPhone screen. I tried this update. Took a total of 35 minutes and nothing. I had to repair my phone and still nothing. Everything works but the txt messaging.

#62 ·
Have you tried a different phone? Did the show notifications option under the bluetooth settings for your car on your phone get turned off by any chance? This feature was mostly problematic for me, it worked for some time then eventually it caused my Bluetooth audio to lag pretty bad.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it completely stops working, I mean it is a 10 year old infotainment system and my guess is it could have been an iOS update that made it stop working somehow. Is there a text message app on the car screen? Will it show a list of your messages there?

2014 Diesel US with Mylink here and I'm having a heck of a time with this whole process. I've downloaded the files from mega and the Google drive and transferred them to a formatted Fat32 thumb drive with 64GB of room usb 3.0 and they don't get recognized. (Multiple attempts with each download)

I transfer all 14 files I download correct and they are in file formats ranging from img.bz, mnf, smd, bin, cks.

Do I transfer all 14 update files or just the four in the photo that are in the picture of the mylink screen?

I am computer savvy and this is driving me nuts.

I have been having an issue with my mylink cycling on and off every 5 or so min for the past few weeks. I've checked fuses, reset radio, etc and now struggling with this

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

#65 · (Edited by Moderator)
Double check and make sure your USB drive looks like this in the picture below, all the files need to be in that folder. You don't need to take them out of the folder and transfer them to the root of the drive

Also I'll warn you, if you think the radio's 12v power is being cut off every 5 minutes I have no idea what will happen if it shuts off during the update, I know it takes longer than 5 minutes. You may end up updating successfully and the issue is gone, it might update fine and the issue persists, or it bricks itself lol. I don't know if it can recover from that

I use 7 zip. If you are on Windows the built in unzipping tool should work but this is what they look like. First picture is the contents of the update if you go into the ccr folder within the update folder. That should be left alone. Second is the update folder (first one) which should be copied over to the flash drive.

Easiest way for me to get it on the flash drive is to open the .zip file using 7 zip (when installed right click on zip file, if on Win10 there should be a 7zip menu dropdown, click on open archive. On Win11 right click and open with 7 zip) then drag the update folder to the desktop, then select the folder and use Ctrl+C, open the flash drive contents in Windows Explorer then do Ctrl+V

It is. Can you post the link so we don't have to type it?
Try to copy and paste this but remove the parentheses, if I post the full link it loads the pictures and I'm not able to see the link. On my end it loads the pictures in a small embedded box inside the post which I'm not sure if it's doing that for you

Does anyone have a picture of the list of files once they are unzipped?

Some of the files won't unzip and my radio still won't recognize them.

I talked to GM and this update will work with my 2014 diesels mylink with nav.

I just don't want to spend $170 at the dealer to have them do it
