surging under acceleration

I have about 960 km's on my car (1100 ish miles) and I'm getting a little surge under light acceleration been there since I brought it home second day I checked the plug gap, all four where at 25 so I opened them up to 35 and no change in the surging. On a side note all the chev dealers here in my area call for a 28 gap for the 1.4 I even requested to see it in there system. I left them at 35 anyway. Also when the engine is cold it sounds like I have an exhaust leak (air escaping sound) I also have this sound under acceleration could I have a boost leak possibly? The sound is gone when driving just when accelerating. Any ideas on the surging and air leak sound? Are they related possibly? I'm gonna take it to the dealer but I'm sure they won't hear or feel anything.

Wow how did I miss that? (GM's Official Statement Regarding Spark Plug Gaps.) I'd been following the spark plug thread to see what was going on but I guess I just got lazy haha. So 28 is the recomended high end? guess I'll drop it back a bit and see what happens. As for fuel I'm running 87 octane (our regular) dealer was against supreme (91 oct) and said it wasn't needed. Temperature doesn't seem to affect it. (36 celsius to 11 celsius or 96ish to 51 fahrenheit) It never seems to change I just notice it under light acceleration and varying rpm's. I'll be adding a K&N intake to it shortly when money free's up so maybe that will help. I did do the intake mod but noticed no difference in sound or performance. I'm taking it on for it's 1000 km oil change and I'll have them take a look at it, if nothing comes of it I'll just drive it and hope it breaks down under warranty lol Anybody else getting that air leak sound? it's very faint and I can only hear it if I'm listning for it or a drive by a building with the windows down. The reason I'm leaning toward a boost leak is because after 3000 rpm it just kinda peaks and doesnt gain anything after that... obviously not a fast car but I've really gotta work the car to pull out and pass somebody I actually usually short shift it cause it falls off after 3000 rpm (manual)

I'm mostly adding the k&n filter for the improved throttle response cause I find the car lagy when pulling out in a hurry, heck this thing won't even spin the tires when pulling out with the pedal on the rug and tc turned off. Anyway I changed my plug gap back to 27 so we will see what happens with supreme gas. Thanks for the help.
