Hi Guys,

I'm back with car issue, I know its been mentioned that I should be on the Sonic site but have not been able to post with them.

My son had the car out this weekend and went off the road and did some damage to the left front in car. Lights were left on and battery went dead which resulted to key being stuck in the ignition. Same time he panic and busted the key in the ignition. about 1/4 inch of the key was sticking out and after researching. I was able to remove the key. Now my problem is battery fully charged inserted key but no crank when turned to start. I noticed on the dash a light that shows a car with a padlock on it. Can I reset the security system and how on this vehicle? Any help greatly appreciated

The fob has an antenna that senses when the car is "calling it". The car will check if the fob is present when you go to start the car. If that antenna got broken, it won't respond to the car's inquiry and as a result, will not allow the car to be started.

If you have a spare key, I'd try that. Otherwise, perhaps something in the key switch got broken.

The padlock light is indicating that the key being used is not being recognized by the anti theft system.

You will have to use the other key (if available) or get the car towed to a dealer so they can configure the new key to the passlock system.

As you found out, a dead battery will cause the switch to not go to the lock/key removal position and were very fortunate to get the remains out.
