Another record year for the Chevrolet Cruze in the U.S. with sales up 10% to 273,060. The Cruze was again Chevrolet's bestselling car model.

However, despite strong incentives in December (including 20% rebates on old stock) sales were actually down 2% for the month vs. December 2013.

Total U.S. Chevrolet sales for the year were above 2 million for the first time since 2007.

I'm a statistic and I'm loving the little 1.4turbo RS!
It's no V8, but I appreciate every little bit of this wonderful, reliable engine that could.
Good balance of mpg and mph.

I got a friend with a non-turbo sonic that's got nothing but envy for my Cruze. Makes the car that much more enjoyable.
:grin:I can see a new Cruze in his future.

I purchased my Cruze in 2014
Shortly after, 5 other folks in my neighborhood made a very similar decision. lol
One of them is a black RS. I like seeing other cruzes...

But I was trying to be unique. :sad010:

I feel they also need to do something to compete with the ecoboost. Either give some good engines with good n/a hp/tq for a competitive price or jump into the world of boost.

Tbh ecoboost very rarely get the numbers they claim although they do make great power. At the same time people are flocking to ford because of these engines. imo the 2.0T (ford)is a beautiful engine and is offered in many models. so I don't understand why gm seems so nervous to put their 2.0T in more models.

Price. It's a pricey motor. The MPG figures and power output put it right into V6 competition, which are usually in the $30K price range. The GM 2.5 isn't at all bad in non-SUV applications. Neither is the Honda 2.4 in anything besides a CR-V. Toyota's 2.5 is so out-of-date in 2015 that it isn't even funny - and it's just pathetic in the RAV4 where it's in a constant battle with the transmission.

I love the Ecoboost 1.5 - very smooth motor and I seriously considered trading my Cruze on a Fusion a few times, but it has a heavy piece of car to move around, so it spends a lot of time in the 3-4K rpm range where it is wasting fuel compared to a more torquey at lower RPM 2.4/2.5 liter engine in other makes. The 2.0 Ecoboost has a lot of low-end torque, but I don't think it competes well with V6 engines in mid-sized sedans - it runs out of breath at higher revs. It makes the Escape a lot of fun, just because there really are no V6 small crossovers these days.

Agreed 100%. Actually, the old Fusion was just a Mazda 6. Fantastically reliable, but a lot of cheap materials and a boring design. The 2008-2012 Malibu was actually a decent seller and a decent car compared to the Camry/Accord of the time (their worst for both models IMO).

Reaching out to their European division for the Escape/Fusion/Focus worked extremely well for Ford and has worked very well for GM as well (the Cruze). Unfortunately GM doesn't have that market to reach into for a midsized or crossover. A clean-sheet approach like the new Impala, then, is exactly what the Malibu needs. The current one feels like it is designed by a committee, much like GM products of old.

With those numbers I wonder how long before Toyota and Honda start comparing themselves to the Cruze. When it comes to advertising Chevy simply doesn't cut it.

Their commercials pretty much tend to focus on each other. They don't like to come to terms with the fact that an American small car is, for once, good competition. I've never seen an ad from either company being compared to a Cruze.

Now if only the Malibu was as much of a contender as the Fusion and Accord are in the marketplace...

No some one mentioned the guy that purchased a pick up for $ 75.00 and is still rusting down the road after 38 years of ownership .. Model year 1957 .................
