Does anyone have any tricks to not strip the oil pan bolt? I have gone through two bolts and can't seem to change the oil without stripping the head. Any advice would be appreciated.

Not sure if someone mentioned it in one of the 302 posts 😳. Loosening off the oil filter frist will let the oil filter housing drain back to the oil pan and the filter to drip half of the oil off. If you drain the oil pan and put the plug back then remove the filter, about 300-500 ml of oil will drain to the oil pan and stay in the pan. Loosening the filter Frist will allow you to replace more oil. This is the same on any cartridge style filter.

Interesting, I normally just pop the dipstick up a little bit. Maybe I should do this instead.

Still pull the dipstick, then remove filter and lay filter cap on to cover stuff from falling in, then drain. Install plug, install filter, then Oil....
I have worked at a Chevy, caterpillar and international dealers and that style of filters are all the same. Even knowing it , I sometimes forget on my car because I drain my oil then pull the drain pan out and remove the filter and put the filter on the hook on my pan. Then I'm like dam it , did it again lol. I then put the drain pan back under and pull the plug again 🙄😂. Best way is to pull the filter frist , it gives the housing more time to drain. If oil is really dark , I put a little clean oil in the filter housing to help flush out the dirty oil better.
