any thoughts?
The bottle says it works for engines requiring 5-30 & 10-30.

GM 4718 M & GM 6094 M
ILSAC GF5
ACEA A1/B1, A5/B5
API SL, SM, SN
I plan for winter use only.

edit; another mfg listed the dexos1 same as GM 6094M

Interesting simply Interesting.with this in mind I will have to tell the dealership that I dislike to use 0w 30 in this engine I am allowed free oil changes since I purchased IT from them I had to have them repair IT dec 31 st

I am not to happy with them maybe I'll get a video of them messing my car up and post it on you tube
Huh??

0W30 would not hurt our engine. It's actually better for it because of its texture in cold weather. Ultimately, it would be of the same thickness as 5W30 in the summer.

Your dealer is not going to put in a different viscosity without your consent first. I don't think ACDelco even has a Dexos 0w30 yet? We just use 5w30 year round for our customers unless they specify otherwise.

There are a few dexos1 0w-30's IIRC, but none of them are widely available in the US.

For 98% of places in the US, especially northwest Georgia where it's simply not that cold in the winter, a synthetic 5w-30 will offer more than enough cold-weather flow and protection. A 0w-30 would be useful in Regina, SK or Edmonton, AB, though, places that get much colder in the winter.

Ive seen 0w30 in Mobil 1 at Walmart.
Its advertised in a Green Bottle "Advanced Fuel Economy"

Says 2% increase in efficiency and economy.(includes disclamer as well lol)

is this just for winter temps only or good for all year long?

All year round. The 0w when the engine's cold helps out cold flow even when the car's sat baking in 90*F temperatures all day. 90*F is still frigid cold for a 1.4T whose operating temperature is about 200-220*F, and whose oil can exceed 250*F.

What are you referring to exactly?

We've been using 0W-20 in a 2.4 Accord after it seemed unhappy starting in the winter (it calls for 5w-20). The Toyota uses it stock.

Good stuff. The Cruze calls for a 30 weight to deal with the increased heat from the turbocharger. During the hot months, you generally want to run an oil that has less gap between the two weights as the oils farther apart in viscosities will break down more in extreme heat.

FTIW, I've been using Mobil1 5W-30 in the P5 for the last 82K miles, year round, with no issues. I see no reason to go to 0W oil in the winter unless the car sits outside in really sub-zero weather all the time. I think a pan heater, block heater, or coolant heater would be better in that environment. In GA?

My car sits outside all year round even in well below zero days, with that said I have seen no reason to use a 0w-30 oil. I also have no way to use any form of heater where I can park so I am limited to oil as the only means to give any extra cold weather staring help.

Conventional oil only starts to get thick at zero degrees Fahrenheit, so even the dexos synthetic blend(dealer fill) should be good for slightly colder than that. If in even colder weather 5W-30 Mobil 1 has changed a few times over the years but last I checked it has a -50 cold pour point.

If I wanted any extra cold weather starting help I would just use a good dexos approved 5w-30 full synthetic.

IF the vehicle will tolerate 0w-30, I expect a 1mpg gain.

I would not expect a noticeable fuel economy gain. 2% better fuel economy over an oil change is a very small percentage that would likely show up only after 5000-7500 miles, and only if one crunched some numbers for all the fuel costs over that oil change. For example, assuming your Cruze gets 33 mpg, 2% better fuel economy would be 33.66 mpg. That's hard to pick out from normal tank to tank fluctuations.

I'd use 0w-30 for other reasons than better fuel economy. Better cold flow and better cold protection are typically the most cited reasons for using a 0w-30.

Last 25k I've avg'd 48~, my method of the 1mpg. Traded it back for 5w-30.

Thanks guyz

Sorry to bring up an older thread guys. But I'm due for another oil change in a week or so. And I have seen a Mobil 1 bottle like the one described but it's for 0w-20 and it does not say Dexos on it anywhere. But if you look at this site it says that Mobil 1 0w-20 is approved by them. http://www.gmdexos.com/licensedbrands/dexos1licensedbrands.html
Any thoughts, ideas???

What country and does your oil cap say 5w 20 or 5w 30? Here in Cleveland, Ohio 0w 30 Mobil 1 is avalable but you have to roll the dice on which one actually has 5 qts of it on hand. One oil change the one near me has it, next month its the one in another county.

I'm in the US. I'm not sure what the cap says. It's a 2013 lt. I can go down to Walmart and get 0w-20 for $25. For some reason the 0w-30 is $35. Not sure why it's like that but I wanted something for the upcoming winter, and more info on this. If it's not advised to use the 0w-20 it's not a huge deal. Maybe I'm just over thinking this and just go with it

Stick with #w-30 oil. You don't want to run 20 in this engine, find 0w 30 at another location. You can call but hope the person isn't just going to blow you off and say we don't have it with (9) 5 qt bottles and (12) 1 qt bottles on the shelves.

*edit*
Different price for different weights of the same type? May have to read the price vs upc code closer to see if it's the right spot. Usually reg syn is on price 0W is another and extended is another. Never trust what the shelves say, i got a $19 air pump that really was almost $30 when it rang up. There was 10 of them in that spot and the spot it should have been was empty.

I guess 0w-30 it is for my next oil change.
I'm not sure what was in it before. I asked the dealer to put in Mobil 1 synthetic last time but who knows.
The only reason they did it was that they gave me a few free oil changes. I had to pay a little in the difference but I was fine with that.
