Hi all, I have a quick question ?. I have searched the forums but I could not find any info on this !! Is it possible to replace the turbochargers coolant return pipe with out taking the whole turbo out i.e. Headers... Or can it be done with just removing the cartridge!!,... Any help would great as mine seems to be leaking from where the metal sleeve joins the rubber hose.??.. It seems to be a very expensive exercise for a 30 dollar part, if i have to pull the whole turbo out .. for a coolant hose, which will always need replacing eventually.. It is a real bad design ..

TIA
If you need to replace the cooling line I recommend changing both of them instead of one because if you replace one the other one will leave then you have to take it all apart again these is way to do it Jack up your car remove the splash shield you may or may not have to you might want to move the Cadillac converter out of the way by unclipping it from the tour bow to make it easier and get along enough French the size as a 17 mm big nut that's actually attached to the line so if you're trying to replace the one that goes on the driver side of the car you will need to remove the other one before you can get to the top one that's the easy way to do without removing it for Bill get along wrench or medium size one small ones will not work and please use jack stands

5/16" heater hose any recommended brand or does anyone have a link to what will work. I could only find 5/16 transmission cooling line and its a little to rigid. It kinks too much to allow flow, or I don't know the proper amount needed.

Welcome Aboard!(y)

Me and my son just did the coolant pipes on his 13 cruise. Drop the cat and replace them in a hour. Bought the parts from dealership which they had in stock. 88 dollars car is back on the road. It takes two people for sure and a good flash light. But it can be done.

Yes you can change the return pipe. It's easy to do and it doesn't take a lot of work. It can be done by one person. It's best to use a wrench, not a ratchet to get to those high places. Be sure your vehicle's jacked up and be sure you order the right part because there's two different sizes of those hoses for that car. I've had to go to GM maybe two or three times to get the right one cuz they have always sold me one for the bigger engine and not for the 1.4. The oil return line is the same way if you're wanting to change the cooling lines, there's two of them on the back of that torbo. If you're going to change one, you might as well change the other. You might have to loosen up the turbo from the front of the engine block to get better access cuz I had to

good to have replacement exhaust manifold nuts and gasket just in case...

Good Morning,

I realize this is a years old post but I was merely curious on what kind of hosing it that and what is the size? I realize 5/16 is the inside diameter but the hose in your picture looks a bit larger than what I just bought and it also doesn't seem to contain any kinks. Any and all help is appreciated!

that was what I did, crimp clamps on the pipe side and silicone hose clamp on the other due to one day the hose may have to be disconnected, hose is a 5/16 (10mm) inside diameter silicone high temp coolant hose(not waste gate hose). Don't use fuel injection or oil line, it will get brittle and you'll find black stuff in the coolant reservoir over time. I Shielded it with silver High temp hose rap.
Hey mate. Is your hose a 90 degree bend or have you done that?
Can you recommend me clamps I can use that aren't crimped, as I haven't got one of those (I could get one to be fair!)

Thanks mate.

I have not seen him here since July, but maybe @Thebigzeus can answer.

All sorted. Went with 8mm coolant silicone hose with 90 degree bend, crimp clamps x2 on one end and jubilee on other. Same as above. Fixed thank you.

Worth noting...

1. Let coolant / engine cool down before work (still doable but safer!)

2. Wear goggles! When I removed my old hose, it was like an arterial bleed of hot coolant towards my face...

3. You'll lose about 2.5L of coolant, so worth considering a drain pan.

4. Go through the coolant bleed procedure and even then, it might take time to fully fill due to air locks etc.

Nice one. Keep Cruzing! (I'm actually from the UK with THE Cruze's A14NET engine in a Vauxhall (Opel) Astra GTC! =)
