Install 2013 eco cluster in a 2012 eco?

Hey guys, I am really thinking about doing this just not sure if it can be done or not? Any clue on the part number/s? Thanks

What's the difference between them? I know the 2011s lacked a lot of the screens compared to the 2012s.

On the 2012's the gauge pegs and maxes out at 50mpg where on the 13's it goes beyond 50. It also breaks it down into different best averages instead only having one default of last 50 miles like in the 2012s. It also has a setting to break the mpg's down mile by mile based on efficiency.

I think the cluster itself is identical. It's the software that drives it that is quite a bit different.

I can't at all speak for the Cruze, but in the Excursion, the gas trucks have one cluster and each of the diesel choices have their own cluster. They are the same size and look very similar, but some of the plugs on the back are different between them. Now I need to try to find a place to reprogram the diesel cluster I have when I do the conversion to match the mileage on the rest of the truck since I can't use gas cluster.

After doing some research on this, I think the screens might be controlled by the ECM, not the cluster itself. For 2012, I found six different clusters, but only two of which have MPH speedometers/odometers. Of those two, one has RPO code DVR, which is the chrome bezel for the LTZ/RS version vs. the other one that has the silver plastic bezel. Everywhere I looked doesn't seem to show a special RPO code for Eco models.

INSTRUMENT PANEL PART 2 ELECTRICAL. Fits: Cruze | Tonkin Online Parts

All the online parts catalogs I found aren't updated for 2013 models yet.

They're probably changing it to that to eliminate the possibility of people changing it to falsify the mileage. The Excursion one (10 year old technology) has the odometer built right in it, but that's about all it is. Pressing the Excursion trip button while cycling the key like three times will put the cluster into diagnostic mode where it'll read a lot of the screen stuff like the Cruze has, but I'm not sure if that's cluster or ECU tied. I do know the mileage stays in that cluster though, not the ECU.

It sure would be awesome if the other trims had the same screens. I mean, who's to say some of the rest of us don't care about our gas mileage?

Ya it sure would be. Here's a forum members post on the differences. "On the dash, between the RPM and speedometer gauge, the center instrument cluster has a software update. You can toggle through 3 tabs, the first being what was on the 2012, 2nd has your tire air pressures, battery voltage, units change, 3rd tab has all kinds of things for the ECO. It has the last 50 miles and best 50 miles avg, plus is takes the last 30 miles and breaks it down into 10 3 mile segments and shows the efficiency for each in a bar graph. Followed by a global graph of your overall fuel performance. You can toggle through each tab to get the different screens of information. Pretty nifty improvement."

I like the idea, but I would save the $$ and stress and get a Scanguage II and have all the parameters you could want. I have one and plan on installing it in my Eco soon (when I get time and the weather cooperates).

I agree. No bar graphs there, but I like the mileage readout. It'll read up to almost 200 instant mpg before going to 9999 when the DFCO activates. Plus I can watch coolant temps, and best of all, the boost level (I assume manifold pressure).

Just bumping this thread up to see if anyone ever attempted this or had any additional information on how to get the 13/14 clusters to work in the older cars? I did a bit of this back in the old days with the 90's GM cars that had the "DIC" (driver information center). These units just wired into the car and pulled data the ECM was already providing and then categorized and displayed it - so no ECM changes were needed - just swap it in and everything worked as the computing/display was handled on the unit itself. Also, the older digital style dashes had a mileage chip in them that could be pulled and swapped into another cluster (so if you had to replace the cluster because of failure, you could retain the correct mileage).

Obviously this was 20 years ago, so not sure how/if this has all changed, but I am green with envy (pun intended!) on the new Eco display and would love to get it in the car :)

I used to swap out clusters just like you are talking about too! I haven't tried it yet, but I'd like to swap out my ECO cluster with one from a 13 Regal. They look bad ass with indiligo lighting and then have do this to my DIC: Our Chevrolet Cruze/Buick Verano Custom Cluster Offerings - YouTube

Not sure if it's like the older GMs where you had to have matching pairs like 11-12 and 13-14 are the only years they can swap gauges straight up. I had a Buick and in order to get the regal DIC I had to swap for a regal same year or below. When I tried outside of that window I had abs brake service vehicle and a slew of other lights plus tac wouldn't fully rev the whole rev range. Didn't someone say they had a computer update and it gave them the 13 tabs?

That video shows the Camaro ZL1 options!
