Good evening,

I purchased my Cruze April 2011, it being my first brand new car, I can say I am satisfied with the purchase. With just about 35,000 miles it has been extremely reliable with but a few quirks. I have been reading the forums for quite some time and have yet to feel a need to join until tonight.

I am not happy with my dealer and their level of service. My first issue has to do with the noise coming from the air vents which some have had on this forum. before my 3 year warranty passed I visited my dealer 3 times with no fix. Each time after my visit the noise would be gone only to return 2-3 weeks later. I gave up faith that they could properly fix it and resigned to live with it. My current issue is due to a recall notice I received last Thursday dealing with coolant loss. Since I haven't noticed any issues I just shrugged it off. Now Friday evening I go to dinner with my wife when I hear my fan going which was unusual. Upon inspecting under the hood I see the coolant reservoir is empty and decided a visit to the dealer was necessary. So Saturday morning the dealer told me they don't do recalls on Saturdays which I forgot. When pushed that fact the reservoir was empty they reluctantly said they'd look at it but would take 3-4 hours. Since I wasn't going to wait 3+ hours for just a coolant fill-up I told them I'd go to my mechanic, who took all of 45 seconds to fill it up. I was informed that any lower it would affect the car, to keep an eye on the fluid level, and have the recall done ASAP. After getting home early afternoon I noticed a fresh line of fluid on the pavement. Fast forward to noon today, the fluid level was checked and already 3/4 of the added fluid is already gone. Upon calling the dealer the earliest date for the recall is November 5, which I think is ridicules. Unless the check engine light comes on they wont take any action. Since my time is valuable I refuse to wait 3-4 hours to have fluid added.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there,

I apologize for the disheartening experience with your dealership. Have you considered trying a second dealership for the recall work? Feel free to send me over a private message along with your VIN, current mileage, contact information and a new dealership in mind. Hope to hear from you, and welcome to the forum!

You are creating your own problem.....Stop asking about the recall.

Call your dealer......heck, get it to your dealer and show them the fluid hemorridge......you need a repair, not a recall.....they'll fill it back up when it is finished and your repair and recall will be completed simultaniously.
Do not continue to operate the car.....if you can make it in by topping off do so, otherwise, make them tow it in to avoid further damage.

The "recall" is just an instruction to top up coolant without charge to compensate for air pockets that may have been in the system at the factory. The title of the recall indicates that it is for loss without an apparent leak. Since you have a visible leak, this is a repair and not a recall. They should be able to get you in whenever they schedule regular appointments. If they can't get you in reasonably soon (like within 48 hours), then you need to find another dealer who takes better care of their customers. As said above, it would be best not to drive the car in this condition because you have a failed part somewhere and a leak that substantial could go catastrophic in the blink of an eye and leave you stranded on the side of the road in a pool of coolant and potential damage to the cooling system or the engine itself.

As others have already said - forget the recall. You have a coolant leak. Get it repaired. If your dealership won't do it in a timely manner find another Chevy dealership or if none are available, any GM dealership.

As stated above, forget a recall, this is Powertrain warranty claim.

FAQ section. For roadside they don't cover the ride to the dealership or home if you break down outside of the dealership and rental hours(most tow truck drivers are cool with you riding with them to drop the car so long as you are alone). Hotel is covered if you literally are out of town but the ride to the hotel is not covered. Verify the hotel is in the same state when they set that up. The price they are willing to pay may put that hotel no where near the closest dealership you were towed to. In all seriousness, go online to enterprise and book a time if you are in the situations listed above as you will not be 1st in line when they open up the next day.

I am afraid that this might have happened and will do all I can to prevent this and any damage that may occur. Though I usually drive 20 miles back and forth to work I am planning on driving in NJ this Saturday.

My car has been left at the dealer who stated a $159 diagnostic fee and that it might not fall under warranty.

Hotel, yes. Food and transportation was pretty much on you still if enterprise wasn't available. I was like 200 miles from home and the 1st hotel booked was halfway between closest dealership and home. Dealership had no loaners as they used the closed Enterprise for loaners.

Thank you all. I'll be taking it into the dealer shortly and make it into a repair issue instead of a recall issue as it looks to be just keeping an eye on the level and adding as needed. Since I work nights I will use their shuttle service to get home and get some sleep.

When I first bought the car they had two locations with sales and service, now it's down to. One service and two sales locations.

LI Cruze 11, PM Chevy Customer Care here with your VIN, contact info, and dealership information. I'm not sure I would trust your dealership to handle this properly without GM looking over their shoulder.
